A new 200 bedroom hotel could be created at one of the region’s leading business parks.
Planning permission has been granted to develop a hotel, complete with bar, restaurant and conferencing facilities at Blythe Valley Business Park, off Junction 4 of the M42 near Solihull.
The hotel would be built on up to a four acre site on the business park and could lead to the creation of around 150 jobs.
Paul Rubincam, director of Liberty Property Trust UK, which develops and manages the business park in partnership with Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, said the development of a hotel would be a major boost to the park, its occupiers, the borough and the surrounding region.
“Opening a hotel has been part of our vision for bringing first-class amenities to the business park ever since we became involved in Blythe Valley Park and would provide our tenants and the local economy with a massive boost,” he said.
“Over the last few years we have created a range of high-quality offices to suit companies of all sizes and attracted major multi-national organisations to the park.
“We have reached a stage where a hotel with outstanding conferencing facilities would be of great benefit to our existing tenants and also help attract new businesses to the area.
“We have been granted outline planning permission for a hotel with up to 200 bedrooms so we are very much in the early stages of the planning process.
“Over the coming months we will be in close consultation with all our occupiers, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and leading hotel companies to discuss the plans.
“The quality of the environment at the park and the links to major transport networks, which includes a new hourly bus service to Birmingham International train station and airport, are major selling points for Blythe Valley Park and we believe bringing a hotel here would also be a major asset.”
Blythe Valley Park covers an area of 257 acres, including a dedicated countryside park, and is home to companies and organisations such as Arup, Oracle, British Gas, Caterpillar Finance, Balfour Beatty and UK Athletics.
